I'm getting an error 5 (access denied) when i try to run a write test under surface scan on HDS

It is the second drive ,formatted , logical partion and otherwise empty.

IBM T60 win 7 ULT

Does anyone know how to get around this?

Thank You

It seems some other software or the OS itself is performing some
operation on the selected disk and this prevents the exclusive use of the disk.
That's why the "access dentied" error is displayed when you try to start the test.

This can be caused by an antivirus software or indexing service of Windows
(even on a new, empty drive). Please close all other software (even Explorer
windows) which may access the logical partition and thus prevent testing.

If the drive is empty, maybe you can completely remove the formatted partition
from the disk in Disk Management before starting the test.

Apparently the AV was accessing the drive,
I shut it down as you suggested and am able to run the write feature.
So far it has turned 2 bad sectors from red to green.
Thank You

Excuse me, I'm not sure if I understood correctly.
What kind of error do you see?
Do you see the error in both normal and safe mode of Windows?
Please send an image to info@hdsentinel.com so I can help.

To diagnose the issue, please click on Start -> Run and enter CMD.EXE to open a console window.
Navigate to the folder of the software by entering

CD "\Program Files\Hard Disk Sentinel"

and then enter

HDSentinel.exe /REPORT

this should start the software (which displays the error) but also save a
HDSentinel_3.60 PRO_report.txt file to the folder of the software.
Please send me that file in e-mail so I can investigate the situation and advise.

I just hope that running on safe mode frequently won't get anything to crash.

Of course not, this is why it is "safe mode" ;)
