Re: ADATA SX8200 Pro 2TB SSD - Error: 23 data error (CRC)
I can confirm that you did not make anything wrong. What you did is completely normal, probably everybody (including me) would do the same. > At one point the window became unresponsive (greyed out, "loading" mouse pointer etc.) This happens when the drive stops responding at all, "fr...

Re: ADATA SX8200 Pro 2TB SSD - Error: 23 data error (CRC)
> So my thoughts are the slow read speeds could be to do with the charge in the NAND cells running low over time. Yes, you're absolutely correct: the data "harder" (= slower) can be read back. > Anyway, I ran a surface read test and this showed a strange cyclic pattern in the read speeds. ...

Re: Is the basic surface read test enough to detect any potential surface issues?
Yes, if the drive already contains data (filled at least once completely), then the Disk menu -> Surface test -> Read test would be perfect. I thought you may mean a new/empty/unused drive. On a drive with data, yes, I'd only recommend the Disk menu -> Surface test -> Read test. > Also, would you co...

Re: Is the basic surface read test enough to detect any potential surface issues?
The Disk menu -> Surface test -> Read test is a good start, but in many cases, it may be not "enough". For example with SSD or SMR hard disk drive (assuming that the drive is new/empty so generally unused) the drive may not actually reads the data sectors, but responds quickly from a look ...

Re: New hard drive - Information not yet available in Disk Information
Thanks for the images. Yes, the temperature and transfer speed seems absolutely correct and expected. Generally during intensive using (like a surface test) the temperature can increase with 20-25 Celsius as you can see. Yes, on hard disks, the slowly decreasing performance graph is also expected, a...

Re: New external SMR drive: second Read Test much slower than first
10 cm movement should cause no troubles especially if there was no read/write operation.
If the drive may dropped ("knock") to the table, then it could be a problem, but I suspect there should be no issue now.
Thanks so much for your kind words and support, really great honour

Re: New external SMR drive: second Read Test much slower than first
Yes, what you see is completely normal and expected situation. Generally when the drive was new, empty and you started the read test (even if sounds surprising) the drive did not read the data sectors: the drive has an internal look up table to "know" which sectors are empty (= all). So be...
Re: Self-Test
Thanks for the report. Yes, I see. In general, the short self tests / extended self tests work differently on SATA drives and NVMe SSDs, so the difference you see is probably "normal". On SATA drives, generally we can any time start / cancel the self test. But this is not true with NVMe SS...

Re: Estimated remaining lifetime i
83% Health is very good result for an SSD with
Power on time = 1,246 days
Lifetime writes = 24.50 TB
(as you wrote).
I'd plan/consider (not too urgent) replacement below 50% (when the text description turns to yellow) and would immediately replace below 25% (when the text description would be red).

Re: Estimated remaining lifetime i
Sorry, do not really understand what is the question. Please check the Help, it explains the Health and Performance values. Generally the Health reflects the actual status of the drive, how "good" it is. The Performance reflects how fast is the actual drive in the current system, is there ...
Re: Self-Test
It is related to the drive itself. Generally it is the responsibility of the drive how to accept the special commands like short self test / extended self test (or the command to cancel the running self test). Hard DIsk Sentinel attempts to send the proper command - but yes, sometimes (depending on ...

Re: Estimated remaining lifetime i
Without seeing the status, Health, hard to say but probably no, no need to worry. Generally the Estimated Remaining Lifetime is calculated based on - how long the drive used (the Power On Time value) - the current Health % The estimated remaining lifetime is not a strict countdown,it will not show w...

Re: How to restore all data after Windows reinstallation.
Yes, if you still have the old (original) system, and if you want to save all settings, statistics, registration/license info, please use Configuration -> Update -> Backup configuration to save all settings, statistics, logs, etc to a single file. After installation of the software on the new instal...

Thanks for your excellent work and time, I just added the sample image and the download link to the

page, so users can find it there too
Thanks for the tip, will consider about different disk drive types too.

Re: Starting a surface scan
No, I can confirm that for safety, it is not possible to start disk surface test on disk drive(s) by a shortcut or similar.
Surface tests can be only started from Disk menu -> Surface test window (on one or more, even all disk drives).

Re: Space Indicators buttons/tabs missing
Hard Disk Sentinel saved the position of the separator between the list of physical / logical disk drives, so yes, the left bottom section may be not visible eg. if the screen resolution / DPI changed. The easiest way is to completely close Hard Disk Sentinel by File -> Exit and then delete the file...

Re: Disk Health Drops from 100% to 17% in 6 day with 552 bad sectors (in 1 day) appearing on log
I'm afraid yes, what you see is completely "normal" (even if not expected). Generally any disk operation (file copy/move, defragmentation, antivirus scan, disk testing with Hard Disk Sentinel or any other tools) can reveal bad sectors. Depending on the drive and the usage, bad sectors may ...
