Data transfer rate

Copying a disk partition, HDS reported a maximum data transfer rate of 3792kB/s (3.7MB/s) throughout the copy operation. Windows Resource Monitor by contrast reported 44MB/s!! If the HDS figure were correct the partition copy would still be running 10 hours from now, but it just finished after about...

Re: Surface test Re-Initialise

Thank you

It's good to get confirmation that my interpretation of the results was correct - Use only as a "scratch" disk.

It won't go near the RAID array again!

Thanks

Surface test Re-Initialise

I'm running a Surface Test reinitialise against a SAS drive from a RAID 5 array that went inconsistent. When I took the dirve out and introduced it to HDS, it reported 4 uncorrected read errors and 3 uncorrected write errors. Not long into the process it hit a sticky spot on the drive which it event...

Re: Further to Power on TIme for Lenovo drive

How are you getting on with a build to handle this? Do you need more data

Cheers

Re: Further to Power on TIme for Lenovo drive

It's beginning to look like the second one might be ms since most recent power on. No that was wrong the first PoT timer has a value of 742 and the second one has a value of 48,627,714 right now If the second one is ms that translates to 13 hours 30 minutes and change. But the first one (if minutes)...

Further to Power on TIme for Lenovo drive

I posted yesterday about a Lenovo drive (IBM-ESXS WD4001FYYG-23S) showing an Estimated PoT of 136 days. That post hasn't appeared on the list yet. This post is a follow up to that. I ran a Short Self Test, followed by a Long Self Test. Interestingly the Self Test results show power on time of 0 hour...

Power on hours

I just bought a couple of Lenovo branded WD4001FYYG 4TB SAS drives which were advertised as brand new (old stock I assume). The model ID reported is IBM-ESXS WD4001FYYG-23S. They were supplied in sealed anti-static bags with Silica Desiccant pouches inside. I just let HDSentinel loose on the first o...

Surface Test Re-Initialize

I just had to pull a disk from a RAID and ran the Surface Test re-initialize function on it. After 33hrs the test completed with one block marked orange and a message saying that there was a CRC check on sector number 7210516032. Has HDS already re-allocated the sector in this case or are there furt...

Re: Disks behind Adaptec Raid Controller

If you need access to an Ubuntu system with an Adaptec Raid (ASR-51245) installed, I can try to drill a hole in my firewall to get you in.

Re: Disks behind Adaptec Raid Controller

:( That's a shame - do I understand this is quite tricky to achieve on Linux?

Disks behind Adaptec Raid Controller

I can't speak for the non-Linux version, but the Linux version doesn't seem to report on the state of individual drives attached to an Adaptec Raid controller. I have configured smartd.conf to monitor them: /dev/sdb -d aacraid,0,0,0 -n standby -m root -M exec /usr/share/smartmontools/smartd-runner /...

Re: Offset for SAS and SCSI devices

Any progress on allowing offset values for SAS / SCSI drives?

Thanks

Offset for SAS and SCSI devices

For SATA disks that support S.M.A.R.T. you allow the user to "offset" values to reset the "drive health" calculation to defaults. I have a SAS drive that has a few thousand Uncorrected Read Errors and Uncorrected Verify Errors in the S.M.A.R.T. log and as a result reports a low H...

Surface test reinitialise surface

I'm looking at a partially complete disk re-initialise. Most blocks in the chart are a pale green indicating "Good". There are no yellow or red blocks. One block is a darker green/turquoise, and a few other blocks are slightly darker than the rest. What does this indicate please? Thanks Dave

4.60.10b Content?

I can't post to the General Discussion area for some reason, so am posting here.

I just noticed you'd posted a new release on 2nd October. What features are in 4.60.10b beyond the standard 4.60.10?

Thanks
Dave
