Re: Test Failed By Read Element
It is possible to start the hardware self tests of hard disks. Such tests are able to examine the hard disk components (servo, heads, electrical components, internal memory, etc.) in a more reliable way than software based tests (for example, scandisk). The extended test also verifies the disk surfa...

Re: Weak power supply?
It seems the hard disk was unable to spin up properly. In some cases this can be caused by HDD problems (problems with motor, bearing - this is more common for some HDD models). But it can cause a weak power supply which is not able to drive enough power for all components in the computer. To verify...

Re: SATA PCI Controller compatibility
Thanks for the report. It seems this card provides very few information to the software (even the hard disk model ID was not detected which is very rare). As I see, it is based on an Initio Inic 1620 (I see its device identifier in the report). I'll try to get a such card and examine it with more de...

Re: SATA PCI Controller compatibility
Yes, it is possible that the driver or the firmware of a controller does not provide hard disk information as it should. Not only SATA, but some IDE controllers are also affected. Please check the hardware compatibility page: http://www.hdsentinel.com/compat.php for more details about known controll...

Re: Prevent hard disk spin up when retrieving SMART data
Thanks for the information and the report! (maybe the report would be better to send by mail only). The failed opcode (0xec) is the code of ATA IDENTIFY DEVICE, the command issued for all drives to detect their basic information. As you can see, the software could detect the info (model ID, serial n...

Re: Prevent hard disk spin up when retrieving SMART data
When Hard Disk Sentinel starts, first it detects the actual configuration, controllers and disks, OS related information etc. It must issue detection of the disks (type, controller, basic information) before using any SMART (temperature, health and so) related detections. Such detection causes the d...

New tray icon: real time disk usage
Version 2.70 (and latest beta, 2.60b) automatically displays a new icon on the tray next to hard disk temperature(s). It is a hard disk by default but read and write operations reveal different bars on this icon: a light blue bar reflects how the read usage increases and an orange bar reflects the w...

Szeretném informálni a Hard Disk Sentinel alkalmazás legfrissebb 2.70-es verziójának megjelenéséről.

Thanks for the idea!
Yes, I know this graph needs to be updated. Sorry, the current update (2.70) still has the "old" graph but I can assure this update will be available in the next version

Re: Installation instructions
Thank you very much for your thoughts!
You're correct: the installation instructions were missing. Now I fixed this, I added these lines to the Linux page.
Of course sudo is not required if the user logged in as root.
