Synology 720+

Post by vikmet »

Hello,
i'm trying to run HD Sentinel on Synology 720+. I try different approaches:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Hard Disk Sentinel 32-bit Linux console version - hdsentinel-019b
error:
root@123:/volume1/1/1# ./HDSentinel -enabletest -txt -r report.txt
Hard Disk Sentinel for LINUX console 0.19c.9986 (c) 2021 info@hdsentinel.com
Start with -r [reportfile] to save data to report, -h for help

Examining hard disk configuration ...
No hard disk devices found. Please run as "root".

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. Hard Disk Sentinel 64-bit Linux console version - hdsentinel-019c-x64
error:
root@123:/volume1/1/1# ./HDSentinel -enabletest -txt -r report.txt
Hard Disk Sentinel for LINUX console 0.19c.9986 (c) 2021 info@hdsentinel.com
Start with -r [reportfile] to save data to report, -h for help

Examining hard disk configuration ...
No hard disk devices found. Please run as "root".

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. Hard Disk Sentinel Linux console version for NAS boxes / Raspberry PI 4 64-bit (ARMv8 / ARM64 CPU) - hdsentinel-armv8
error:
root@123:/volume1/1/1# ./hdsentinel -enabletest -txt -r report.txt
-ash: ./hdsentinel: cannot execute binary file: Exec format error

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. Hard Disk Sentinel Linux version designed for ARMv5 CPU - hdsentinelarm
error:
root@123:/volume1/1/1# ./hdsentinel -enabletest -txt -r report.txt
-ash: ./hdsentinel: cannot execute binary file: Exec format error

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

root@123:/volume1/1/1# uname -a
Linux 123 4.4.180+ #42218 SMP Mon Oct 18 19:16:55 CST 2021 x86_64 GNU/Linux synology_geminilake_720+

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can any help with that ?
Thanks in Advance

The first ones are the proper binary for your device: they (at least) executed and attempted to perform detection - just found no valid disks/devices, eg. /dev/sda or /dev/hda or similar.

What happens if you try to specify a disk device with -dev command line option, so then Hard Disk Sentinel Linux will try to access specifically that device?

There is Synology Hybrid RAID (SHR) on two IronWolf 4TB disks. With -dev option i get:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

root@123:/volume1/1/1# ./HDSentinel_64 -dev /dev/md0
Hard Disk Sentinel for LINUX console 0.19c.9986 (c) 2021 info@hdsentinel.com
Start with -r [reportfile] to save data to report, -h for help

Examining hard disk configuration ...

HDD Device 0: /dev/md0
HDD Model ID : ?
HDD Serial No: ?
HDD Revision : ?
HDD Size : 0 MB
Interface : SCSI
Temperature : Unknown °C
Highest Temp.: Unknown °C
Health : Unknown %
Performance : Unknown %
Power on time:
Est. lifetime:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

root@123:/volume1/1/1# ./HDSentinel_64 -dev /dev/mapper/cachedev_0
Hard Disk Sentinel for LINUX console 0.19c.9986 (c) 2021 info@hdsentinel.com
Start with -r [reportfile] to save data to report, -h for help

Examining hard disk configuration ...

HDD Device 0: /dev/mapper/cachedev_0
HDD Model ID : ?
HDD Serial No: ?
HDD Revision : ?
HDD Size : 0 MB
Interface : SCSI
Temperature : Unknown °C
Highest Temp.: Unknown °C
Health : Unknown %
Performance : Unknown %
Power on time:
Est. lifetime:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

but when i test on usb ssd i get:

root@123:/volume1/1/1# ./HDSentinel_64 -dev /dev/usb2p1
Hard Disk Sentinel for LINUX console 0.19c.9986 (c) 2021 info@hdsentinel.com
Start with -r [reportfile] to save data to report, -h for help

Examining hard disk configuration ...

HDD Device 0: /dev/usb2p1
HDD Model ID : TS256GSSD230S
HDD Serial No: G074772365
HDD Revision : R0427BNR
HDD Size : 244198 MB
Interface : SAT Standard USB/ATA
Temperature : 41 °C
Highest Temp.: 41 °C
Health : 99 %
Performance : 100 %
Power on time: 491 days, 0 hours
Est. lifetime: more than 1000 days
Total written: 754.94 GB
The status of the solid state disk is PERFECT. Problematic or weak sectors were not found.
The health is determined by SSD specific S.M.A.R.T. attribute(s): #169 Remain Life Percentage
No actions needed.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So it HD Sentinel work but can't read the information from disks. I'm starting HD Sentinel as root but "No hard disk devices found. Please run as "root"."

Can I get this information for all disks sata and usb without putting the -dev command line option ?

You're faster ;)
I just wanted to write that it would be required to access the member disks, not the RAID array itself. /dev/md0 is the array and it does not provide details about the disks, but if you'd try to scan the RAID member disks, then things should work.

Generally those disks may be available as /dev/sda and /dev/sdb too (so then they should be automatically detected). It seems they need to accessed this way, by /dev/sata1 and /dev/sata2
As these not scanned, I'm afraid currently you'd need to specify the device with -dev option.

Maybe is it possible to "map" /dev/sata1 as /dev/sda somehow in the NAS? That would immediately help.

Thanks for your help.
every thing work fine with -dev option. I can't get to map /dev/sata1-2 to some thing but its ok for reports.
