External HDD weak sectors "test failed by read element"

Post by EirasMozz »

I bought my external HDD in March, and use this only for data backup. 30 hours on, ONLY. I conect this only one time in mounth, to backup.

But today when I conect my External HDD, the CrystalDisk and HD Sentinel says that "Current Pending Sector Count", and Sentinel's Hd Health go down to 93%.

When I try to run "Short Self Test" i got this message: "Test Failed By Read Element 0X79"

Yes of course, this is completely normal and expected. This is why the Help describes exactly this situation, please read:

http://www.hdsentinel.com/help/en/62_testfaq.html

In some cases, these hardware tests (Disk -> Short self test, Disk -> Extended self test) are not available, not supported or they result in an error quickly even in relatively low number of problems. No further information is returned about the result, for example it is not possible to list the sector(s) which are damaged. In such case, an appropriate software testing method is required.

For complete details about weak sectors, how they may appear, how they are usually not really caused by the hard disk itself and how they can be usually completely repaired by Hard Disk Sentinel, please check Support -> Frequently Asked Questions -> What is a weak sector? How to repair weak sectors?
