Version numbering - what format does HDSentinel use?

Post by V@no »

I'm confused about HDSentinel version numbering.

The common version numbering is: <major>.<minor>.<build>

HDSentinel seems to use this format too, but when you look in about dialog it also shows a number in parenthesis, which in my mind would represent built number. However that number doesn't change between final version and betas.

So what format does HDSentinel use?

Sorry for the possible confusion, but no.

The number in parenthesis is NOT the build number.
This is the total count of hard disks/SSDs in the internal database of the software. Hard Disk Sentinel uses that database to show physical dimensions and other information (not read from the hard disk / SSD itself) on the bottom of the Information page.
While new devices and their information constantly collected, the database updates usually scheduled differently.
This is why it may remain constant for some time and versions.

Exactly as you wrote, the version numbering is: <major>.<minor>

And when beta versions released, to make the difference, <major>.<minor>.<betaversion-release> used.

Things same for years, not changed, exactly to make the difference between the different versions.
