Tray Icon

Post by skagon »

Hey mate. Just downloaded the 3.70 version, and when I read about the "no disk in tray" I disabled it. Yeah, that was a feature I wanted.
HOWEVER: I still want a generic icon there, so I can access HDSentinel. I just don't want any info on it. Like, the pop-up balloon should just read "HDSentinel" and nothing else. No temps, no disks, no nothing.
Can you do that, please?

In general, to access the software (when no tray icon is visible), you can use the shortcut on the desktop, quick launch or in the Program files group.

If you plan to have a general icon (without temperature), you can try the following:

1) Open Configuration -> Hard Disk Drives and enable "Display only the highest temperature on tray" option at the bottom. This will let Hard Disk Sentinel to display only 1 icon.
2) Open Configuration -> Thresholds/tray icon page and disable "Display hard disk temperature on tray icon". This will let Hard Disk Sentinel to display its generic icon instead the temperature.

I tried both, and actually, that's the settings that I was using to begin with.
The problem is this: even with those settings, the balloon shows as:
Disk: #0 - Apacer SSD - I: - OK
Hard Disk Temperature: 32°C
Health: 100%

...and I've even selected the SSD because its temperature doesn't change much.
However, I've set the HDSentinel tray icon as "hidden", and since Windows XP identifies tray icons by their balloon text, if the temperature changes, sometimes the icon unhides. In Windows 7, this doesn't happen, thankfully. But in XP, the "tray settings" has a dozen entries for HDSentinel, and if there's a new temperature, I have to go and change that variation to "always hide icon". And also when I add a new USB drive, a new icon pops up.
Anyway, I can live with it, it's just that I find the tray icon much easier to open the main programme rather than go to start menu. I know... I'm weird. :P

Keep up the good work.
