Hello,
I am worried that my SSD is dying. Sentinel states that:
The status of the solid state disk is PERFECT. Problematic or weak sectors were not found.
The TRIM feature of the SSD is supported and enabled for optimal performance.
The health is determined by SSD specific S.M.A.R.T. attribute(s): #177 Wear Leveling Count
It is recommended to backup immediately to prevent data loss.
I don't know if this is a software bug but I've just had to reinstall Windows due to it refusing to boot. I think this is an issue with the SSD but I don't want to buy a new one if it is just software and I got unlucky with the Windows installation dying.
I've pasted the log below,
Thanks.

Re: Wear Leveling Count at 1
Thanks for your message and the details.
No, it is not a software bug. I wonder why do you think that?
In the text description,Hard Disk Sentinel shows the reason of the low health:
"The health is determined by SSD specific S.M.A.R.T. attribute(s): #177 Wear Leveling Count"
Even if the SSD is perfect otherwise, the wearout (caused by writes) slowly but surely degrades the health of the device (see Help for details: see bottom of https://www.hdsentinel.com/help/en/52_cond.html ).
If you check the S.M.A.R.T. page, you can verify: the Value is 1, which is the source of the 1% health.
This number decreases slowly from 100 with time (with writes).
As you see, Hard Disk Sentinel reports that
Lifetime Writes . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : 60.23 TB
which is really high. Tried to find the official limit for this model, but I see no such value in the specifications. However, according Samsung:
https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/m ... /warranty/
the 840 Pro (Enterprise series) would tolerate 73 TB data. The EVO series can't reach this number, so it confirms why the health is 1% only when over 60 TB written already.
It is not surprising that you experience troubles with the SSD in general if it has so low health....

Re: Wear Leveling Count at 1
Thanks for your reply.
My apologies if I offended you, I was thinking it was a bug because other software such as Samsung Magician and CrystalDiskInfo is saying that the SSD is in good condition.
I've ordered a Crucial MX500 to replace the failing drive. However the strange thing is that I've managed to reinstall Windows on the 840 without issues and am currently using it. I presume the drive is close to dying and I'm using it on it's last legs.
Thanks again for your help.

Re: Wear Leveling Count at 1
No problems of course, just was not sure, this is why I asked
Generally other tools may check/report only if the error-level threshold reached - otherwise they may show perfect status.
(see https://www.hdsentinel.com/faq.php#difference for more information).
This is why it is important to examine/monitor status and reveal possible degradations with time too.
The SSD may still work, even for longer time. There are reports/reviews when users attempted to write even more on different SSD models. It's possible, without problems.
But when the wearout is high, the memory cells may not able to hold the stored information for long time, especially if the device is powered OFF (when the SSD has no opportunity to periodically refresh/update the information).
So it may still work, but if you power off for longer time, then it is possible that data can't be read back (or will be damaged/corrupted).

Re: Wear Leveling Count at 1
I have to say this looks quite odd...
Note that the SMART numbers also do not add up - even just 3889 (min) erase cycles of 60GB (64GiB installed) add up to 233ish TB, far far away from a reported 867GB lifetime writes, which calculate from 1818M written sectors at 512 Bytes (867GiB or 931GB!). Could be extreme write amplification, but these old bastards also compress data to reduce writes. Anyway, the only thing that this drive is still perfect at is being suitable for the electronics recycle bin.
SSD still accepts chunks of data at a few MB/s avg until it completely disappears from the system; SMART error log is corrupted, self test gets stuck at 10%. Basically dead.Note that the SMART numbers also do not add up - even just 3889 (min) erase cycles of 60GB (64GiB installed) add up to 233ish TB, far far away from a reported 867GB lifetime writes, which calculate from 1818M written sectors at 512 Bytes (867GiB or 931GB!).
