"Remote" means "over the network": to check the disk status of a disk remotely (= disks connected to a different PC).

This designed exactly to verify compatibility, check / confirm if the status can be detected or not. This depends on the external enclosure of the disk drive, so you may verify specifically with your hard disk drive / enclosure.
In case if missing / limited information detected, I'd suggest to use Report menu -> Send test report to developer option, so then it is possible to check the current situation and verify the possibilities.
