Detailed HTML Report

Post by LeonThePC »

I have configured HD Sentinel on many computers but only one of them is emailing me the Detailed HTML report, the rest are sending me a short plain text report. The programs are up-to-date. Under "Message Settings" I have "Detailed HTML report" selected for Report Type. What am I doing wrong?

Sounds so interesting.

Can you please use Report menu -> Save HTML report to save a current HTML report file, just to verify if it's complete and contains the current status?
I'd recommend to send that HTML file to info @ hdsentinel . com address and use Report menu -> Send test report to developer option too, so then I can check and compare results.

I also recommend to try the following:
- on Configuration -> Message Settings page, try to select the Detailed text report (to verify if the issue is related to the HTML format itself or something else, eg. the length/contents of the report)
- on Configuration -> Message Settings page, under the Detailed report components section try to disable some of the HTML report components to attempt to make the report shorter / less detailed
- if you use different language, try to select English language (at least for a test)

and verify the results.

Not sure, but maybe the created HTML report can't be sent somehow (this is why you see the small report only) and to investigate, we'd need to connect to something: for example particular drive, HTML report component, language / regional setting etc.

1) I ran Report menu -> Save HTML report to save a current HTML report file and the HTML file was complete
2) I emailed you the HTML file and I ran Report menu -> Send test report to developer option

3) this is the results when I changed Configuration -> Message Settings page, to the Detailed text report

Test operation: Short Self-test

Hard disk test results:
#1 WDC WD60EZRZ-00GZ5B1 (5723132 MB) : Successfully Completed
#2 ST3000DM003-2AE16L (2861585 MB) : Successfully Completed

Hard disk test details
#1 WDC WD60EZRZ-00GZ5B1 Hard Disk Serial Number: WD-WX11D37PENSK
0 new reallocated sectors found
0 new spin retry errors found
0 new reallocation events found
0 new pending sectors found
0 new off-line uncorrectable sectors found
#2 ST3000DM003-2AE16L Hard Disk Serial Number: WDH2FE8P
0 new reallocated sectors found
0 new spin retry errors found
0 new pending sectors found
0 new off-line uncorrectable sectors found

Elapsed time: 00:02:12

4) I purchased the professional edition for HD Sentinel for all my clients. I only get a HTML file from one of them the rest are short text emails like the results above. I compared the configuration on the computer that generates the HTML file to another that doesn't create an HTML and they are the same.

Thanks, I received the HTML report and the developer report too. Examined them and I see no problems / issues.
Personally I thought that the HTML file may be too long / detailed and this is why it could not be sent.

According what you wrote, things are normal and working as expected: when you start a disk test (and configured to send details after the test), then you'll always receive this kind of status report which designed only to summarize the details of the test: to show possible problems, degradations and the duration of the self test. In this case, there is no complete (HTML) report sent.

The option on Configuration -> Message Settings -> Detailed text report configures the type of the report only when
- you configure an Alert to be sent on different problems, for example on overheat, low health, new problem detected and logged, etc... see the Configuration -> Alerts page
- you configure to receive a daily status e-mail report, also available on the Configuration -> Alerts page

However this option does not affect the message related to the disk self test(s): after the disk self test(s) completed, only this short test-summary is sent. This is normal and expected behaviour.

> I only get a HTML file from one of them

Probably on that particular system you may receive a daily status e-mail and/or an alert triggered somehow (?)

Is there an easy way I can send you the configuration of HDSentinel on one of the computers that is not working properly so you can tell me if I am doing something wrong?

Excuse me, but this is not really related to the configuration / settings. As I tried to explain, the mail sent after the disk self test is always a short message to indicate the results of the disk test. This is normal and independent from any settings.

You can verify the real report format (short vs detailed HTML report) this way: configure a daily status report mail to be sent (see Configuration -> Send daily status e-mails). The option to control the report format affects that report (and the alerts sent upon problems).

You can send HDSentinel.ini file (which contains the current settings) to info @ hdsentinel . com
and also you may forward report you received in e-mail from the "good" configuration, so I can check and compare.

Sorry, I am trying to understand. I forwarded a copy of the HTML email that I receive from only one client. I also emailed you the HDSentinel.ini files from the computer that is generating the HTML email and from a computer that is not generating an HTML email.

The only different I see is that the HTML Detailed Report email is generated when a Low Health threshold was reached in HD Sentinel. I don't get an HTML detailed report if there is an ERROR or if the Status of the scheduled test comes back with no problems.

Thanks! Somehow I did not receive the HTML email, just the configuration files.

Yes, this is completely normal and expected.

Yes, this is completely normal and expected.

As I tried to explain, if you configure HTML report, you will receive HTML report only
1) when an alert is triggered (for example because of the Low Health Threshold reached) on Configuration -> Alerts page
2) when the daily status e-mail alert is configured on Configuration -> Alerts page

But after the scheduled disk self test, you should receive ONLY a short text report with the result of the test. After the disk self test, no HTML report will be sent, regardless of the report format selected: the report format (text or HTML) affects ONLY the above mentioned 1) and 2) situations.
The report format option does NOT affect the status e-mail sent after the disk self test.

So from other systems, if you configured HTML format, you should receive HTML report in the same case 1) or 2) only.

But after the disk self test, the software always sends short text status email with the results of the test, not a complete HTML report.
