Short self-test not logged by drive

Post by Skirge »

I set up HDS to automatically run both short and long self-test on some frequency. However, the short tests don't seem to be getting logged by the drive, itself, under the "Information" tab for the drive. The extended tests are getting logged just fine. The only difference I'm aware of is the fact that I'm using Windows Task Scheduler for the long self-tests and the HDS Operations Projects for the short self-tests. Any idea why the drive doesn't know these were run? Well, I'm assuming they actually ran, since HDS sends me an email each time. This was from just 5 days ago:

Re: Short self-test not logged by drive

Yes, I can confirm that it is normal for scheduled short self tests: if the scheduled short self test started and completed in a relatively short time between two consecutive detections performed by Hard Disk Sentinel (which happens once per every 5 minutes by default) then yes, the scheduled short self test is not detected as running (and the result not recorded on the Information page) exactly as you can see.
This can be normal behaviour for scheduled short self tests. However, yes, the test was running and its outcome reported in e-mail (if enabled) as you can see.

Yes, scheduled extended self tests (as they run for longer time) automatically detected as running and the result is logged/displayed on the Information page too.
Also if you manually start short self test from the Disk menu, then it is automatically recorded in all cases.

This may be changed in a later version, currently working on some changes around the short/extended self tests.
