Strange behavior of the relatively new laptop HDD

Post by dolke »

Hi,

I have Asus laptop and 640 GB HDD. Laptop is around 3 years old but this issue started to appear for over 2 years now.
I never give it to much attention but now I decided to check the issue with you.

Please take a look at this screenshot taken from the HDD Sentinel Professional, version 4.0 that I use:
http://prntscr.com/25xmjr

You will noticed that health is 82% bud I highly doubt this is caused by disk week sectors and failure. More it has to do with a driver or a cable...

What do you think?

Yes, from the image I agree: Hard Disk Sentinel reports problems occured during communication between the hard disk and the controller (the chipset itself).
Even in laptop computers (where there are no SATA cables) the connection may be not perfect, this is relatively common problem which can make troubles after longer time (months or even years).

For more information, you may check the proper Support -> Knowledge Base section:
http://www.hdsentinel.com/hard_disk_cas ... _error.php

You may also use Report menu -> Send test report to developer option any time, then it's possible to check the complete status of the drive and advise.

Thank you for provided details and suggestions.
I have made the report and passed it to your developer.

I hope that after analysis I will get some resolution for this issue.

Thank you

Thanks, the report received and sent answer.

Generally yes, the problem is related to the data communication channel (cables / connections), not bad sectors or problems related to the disk surface.
This way there are no noticeable signs (no noises or similar) but data corruption may occur during transfer - which can lead to data loss.

You may use the tests in Hard Disk Sentinel to diagnose the current situation, to verify if the hard disk status is stable and there are no new errors reported:

but generally I'd perform backup on any (even minor) change of the reported health and status.
