Auto Startup in Win8

Post by vknowles »

I was reading the thread viewtopic.php?f=32&t=5014
and noticed the following statement:
...Hard Disk Sentinel uses the "Windows Scheduler" to start itself automatically after logon of the user who installed it.
In that case, I think I can tell you why the OP was unable to see the contents of the HDS entry in the Task Scheduler. The OP's user account was a "standard user," not an administrator, and was not the user who installed HDS. When you look at another user's Task Scheduler entry and you are not an administrator, it looks empty. If you run Task Scheduler as an administrator, then you can see and change it.

Is there a way to turn off automatic startup after logging on? I'd rather just run it when I want.

Yes of course: on Configuration -> Preferences page, disable the "Load with Windows" option.
Then Hard Disk Sentinel will not be started automatically, just when you prefer.

Personally I'd more recommend to let it start but disable the "Display main window when started" option instead.
This way it will start in the background, can monitor and detect, report and log problems, issue alerts (if configured) and so.
Otherwise you may miss some important notfications, overheat alerts or similar. It is better if it can be active and monitor the drive(s).
