Reliable crash in storport

Post by reghd »

We can reliably crash our Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 system by running HD Sentinel. It dies in storport. Our basic configuration:
- LSI 9240-4i4e controller with 5.1.78.64 driver
- three arrays with a total of 24 Hitachi 3TB disks and two Vertex 2 Pro boot drives

Otherwise, HD Sentinel seems to work. It sees all the drives and reads the relevant SMART options. Once it starts, however, we get a crash in minutes to hours. I've appended the basic crash details.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your message.
This is interesting as we experienced no such issue(s) with LSI controllers.
For 9240-series controllers, we have successfully used the following drivers, without problems:

4.27.1.64 6-11-2010 LSI MegaRAID SAS 9240-4i
4.31.1.64 8-9-2010 LSI MegaRAID SAS 9240-4i
4.32.0.64 9-17-2010 LSI MegaRAID SAS 9240-4i
4.33.0.64 12-20-2010 LSI MegaRAID SAS 9240-8i

(maybe you can try one of these driver versions if possible).

The 5.1.78.64 driver was tested only (successfully, without any problems) with 9265

5.1.78.64 1-25-2011 LSI MegaRAID SAS 9265-8i

Can you please use Report menu -> Send test report to developer option in Hard Disk Sentinel when it is running and active?
That way I can check the "raw" information provided by the RAID controller and may advise.

I just sent the information. I may be able to get you a detailed crash analysis as well.

Unfortunately we won't be able to use an earlier driver since we rely in features in the newer one. We're about to upgrade to a 9265 and will be able to test with in after tomorrow.

Thanks for the report, I just sent an e-mail back.
I see, there should be no problems with the 9265 controller.
