NAS disk Monitoring - file can not be loaded

Post by lukas.surin »

Hi all,

I really like the NAS Disk Monitoring feature, however, I can not load the files using Samba (nor through connecting drive in Windows 7 or by manually entering the url in both \\IP\path\ or \\server-name\).

Main reason is that the connected network drives do not show in "Browse" at all. All other programs are able to make use of these connected drives.

Entering the path manually results only into network drive with red cross icon.

Feature works 100% if I copy the file from network drive to local disk manully or using script.

Thanks for keeping me updated.

Regards,

Lukas

Hi Lukas,

Thanks for your message and excuse for the possible troubles, however, I do not see any bugs or problems at all.
I did extensive testing with different NASes, different Windows versions (this is why I did not anaswer earlier) and everything works correctly as should.

Do you mean you can't open the files in Windows at all? This sounds like a permission-issue or something else which may block connection in general.

Please note that in Hard Disk Sentinel, in order to read the status source, you'd need to specify the complete path (including the file name too).
So entering

> \\IP\path\ or \\server-name\

will not work - as you need to specify \\server-name\path\hdsreport.html (if Hard Disk Sentinel Linux configured to save the status source as hdsreport.html)

Generally the Browse window should always show the connected network drives, if it is visible in Windows and in other tools too.
This is not really related to Hard Disk Sentinel: it uses the system "browse" dialog to show the contents of a drive/folder.

Maybe the file saved with different name (or extension) and this is why it may not appear in the browse dialog (?) as Hard Disk Sentinel only shows the possible status sources only (not all files) to prevent confusion - and allow easier selection.

The file name should be also entered - otherwise the software can't find/read the status source itself.

Please check the following step-by-step pictures:

1) when Browse clicked and the Network selected in the bottom left area, the list of computers (and NAS devices) on the network presented:

2) when I select the DLINK NAS and the shared folder Volume_1, I see the contents: hdsreport.html
(please note that NOT all files displayed, only possible status source files! So make sure that your file should be saved as hdsreport.html to appear in the browse dialog)

3) when I select this file, the contents loaded and 2 drives found. Please note that the _complete_ path of the status source displayed.
If I'd manually configure, this should be entered.

4) after closing this window, the status of the two drives appear as Network Attached Storage (NAS) drives

Hope this helps in configuring properly.

Can you please make and send images to info@hdsentinel.com about what do you see and how the status source configured on your system?
May give thoughts about what can be wrong there.
