Tested the "Create Test Report" in "Send Test Report" Configuration window and HDSentinel just froze up almost immediately (printed out some lines before that). I could use Windows GUI for a while but everything failed to start and couldn't even shutdown properly. Tested again with "safe mode" ticked. Same thing.

Did you try with the latest possible version 5.30 ?
Generally there should be no such/similar issues with it.

Just because in the other topic you mentioned you use 3.60 version which is very old.
So on a new system (for exmaple Windows 10) a very old version may not work correctly as it does not yet support the new OS.

I think the latest version of 5.30 will solve your issue.
