Health info unsynchronized

Post by Y0tsuya »

I'm seeing something strange the past day or so. One of my drives developed bad sectors and the health % went down to 75%. At first everything shows up fine, a but today when I checked it I found two panes displaying different %. I tried re-launching, rescanning, but still the same. Any ideas?

Thanks for the information.
It seems then the drive status is then stabilized and this caused the health go back to 100%, this is displayed on the bottom and on the left panel.

Excuse me, but this is not a bug but normal behaviour in this situation:
The health graph in the bottom is designed to always show the lowest health found for each days (instead of showing the current health for today).
So if the health was 75% even for a moment, the bottom graph shows that value, indicating that the health changed (otherwise the situation may be un-noticeable).
If the health will be 100% for the next days, the graph will start to show 100% again.

Sorry for the confusion.

Yes that makes sense. I'll observe it for a while to see if the graph returns to 100. It's the 1st time I've seen such dramatic up and down swing in health so am a bit surprised. SMART is no longer reporting remapped sectors which is very strange but I'll have to trust the drive for now.

You're sure, that were remapped sectors?
Pending sectors may come and go without remapping if a read verification after a rewrite of this sector shows no abnormality.

Yes, you are correct: the pending (weak) sectors usually disappear after they re-checked by a write and read command. This is where the Disk -> Surface test -> Reinitialise disk surface test is useful: it forces the hard disk drive to verify the sectors and reallocate (remap) the sectors if required or remove the pending status.
