Where is the Panic Button and back up function
Where is the Panic Button and back up function
I bought this because my drive was dying. I especially thought the Panic Button back-up might save me from a total rebuild. Where is it?

Re: Where is the Panic Button and back up function
Thanks for your message and excuse me for the confusion. I can confirm that there is no "Panic button" available.
Do you mean "Panic backup"?
That is a function which is designed to automatically start backup on different conditions, for example
- if the hard disk is about to fail
- if the health of the hard disk goes below a threshold (eg. reaches the "red level")
- if any new (even minor) problem is detected and logged in the log of the hard disk
and so.
You can configure different backup projects to be executed and managed. These can be launched manually by shortcuts (maybe we could call this as "Panic button"), in a scheduled way and assign to hard disk and specific problem(s) to be executed.
However, its main purpose is exactly to backup IMPORTANT files as quickly as possible to a different location, for example an external hard disk drive, network drive or so. It does not backup system files or folders - as in case of "panic backup" we'd need to protect all really important files (documents, mails, photos, etc...) which can't be reinstalled / reproduced / re-downloaded.
So the first step would be to configure what and where should be backed up and then configure when such configured backup project(s) should run.
(you may even configure that if your HDD 0 is dying, then backup from that drive to HDD 1, if HDD 1 reports problems, then backup to HDD0 or external drive or so).
To configure step-by-step:
a) please open Configuration -> Operations
b) click on New to create a new backup project and enter a name eg. "DataBackup"
c) select "Transfer files and folders" in the Project type field
d) click on Configure
e) in the new window, where you can select which folder(s) to be archived, select the folder(s) you want
to be archived, for example C:\MyData
in the Target panel, specify the folder where the backup should occur, for example D:\MyBackups
(the best is to configure a different physical hard disk to keep the data safe)
f) click OK to close the window. Then in the original Configuration -> Operations window,
you can start the project manually (for testing) by the Start Now button
g) on the Panic backup tab you can specify this project to be started: Add new project -> select "DataBackup"
Then the project will start when there is a problem will be found with any hard disk (you can modify in the "Disk" field
on that panel)
h) on Configuration -> Alerts page, you can configure which "problem" should trigger the start of the Panic Backup.
For example, you may enable the "When failure occurs", "When disk health is low, below 25% and 50%" and
"When a new log entry is added" (when a new, even minor problem detected).
This way the panic backup project will start archiving the selected folder(s) to the other hard disk to when a configured problem is found.
You may also schedule the backup project to be run on a scheduled basis (when there is no problem).
Please refer to the Help of Hard Disk Sentinel Pro for more information about such backup projects.
After this (or if you put your data safe in other way) you may try to repair the hard disk drive if you prefer to diagnose and use it later as described at:
http://www.hdsentinel.com/faq.php#tests

If you prefer, you may use Report menu -> Send test report to developer option any time, as then it's possible to check the actual situation and advise.
